BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT TUESDAY FEB. 23, 2010

Capt. Jerry Boaen and father William "TOOTLE" Boaen go out Tuesday to do some Redfishing on the flats in Warsaw Sound. It was a beautiful day for fishing, but tough on locating the schools. The pair manage to catch and release two nice Redfish. Capt. Jerry is pictured with a 32" Red and Tootle with a 27" Red. Capt. Jerry and I will be prefishing Charleston, SC. for the next couple of weeks getting prepared for our upcoming IFA Redfish tournament in Charleston on March 20th. The field will be very competetive, but thanks to our corporate sponsor Southern Eagle Distributing LLC. we have high expectations of making a good showing.

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT SUNDAY FEB. 14, 2010

Today is Valentines’ Day and like any other day it is a Great Time to go fishing and what made today special is that Capt. Jerry and I had the privilege to fish with Ray Screen who is a student at Bethesda School for Boys in Savannah Georgia. Ray is 14yrs old who like any other 14 yr old is interest in a lot of things other than fishing. I knew my task would be a big one to get him fired up about fishing, but knowing that a front was moving in on Monday, I had a good feeling that the Red fishing would be good as they would be in a feeding frenzy, if I could locate the school and Man was I right!! Capt Jerry and I put Ray on a huge school of Reds. Ray had caught several Reds over the 26 inch mark with his biggest being 30 and half inches. We had a great time and between Ray, Capt. Jerry and I we had manage to keep 12 and tagged and release eight over 24inches. Knowing that Ray Like to play XBOX Live I ask him which was better and with no contest it was Red Fishing Hands Down.

Redfishing in Coastal Georgia with Mark Lewis and George Vachon. We started out knowing that the bite would be on, getting out on the water before the the front from the west coast hit us, using the Evolution popping cork and mud minnows was the trick to catching these Reds. Winds were out of the west at 20knts and a chilly temp of 48 degrees, but that didn't stop this dynamic dou. These guys tagged and released five Reds , the largest one at 27inches.

They took home 8 keepers. Good Job!!!

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT WED JANUARY 13 2010

Captain Jerry Boaen along with his charter Craig Anderson put a whoopin on some Red Fish in Ossabaw Sound using winter tactics for catching these Reds on the Flats. They started thier day on an outgoing tide but the tide was still a little high to use their shallow water tactics and were haveing no sucess at all, but when the tide was right they found a good school of Reds hanging close against the flat and schoal and started wearing them out. They tagged four Reds that day and kept eight for nice meal. They were using the Evolution cork with mud minnows, just letting their bait set close to where they action was and when the Reds Hit they Hit Hard and made a wonderful day of wearing some arms out!!!

TARGET RED FISH DURING WINTER MONTHS

During the winter months you really need to fish slowly for the Redfish. Often leaving your lure "gulp baits, DOA or live bait just setting on the bottom barely moving the bait; often known as dead sticking. Jerking the bait or cork will not work this time of the year due to the Reds being very easily spooked.

Fishing for Reds in the winter is mostly sight seeing as Redfish schools are often found in the shallow water during January and February.When approaching these schools it is almost best to use a push pole, even a trolling motor can spook these Reds during this time of the year. Many anglers think the Reds move to deeper water, but that is far from the truth. Redfish school up in the shallow waters for safety.

The reason for this is that Redfish are very frightened in the winter as they become a major food source for the Atlantic Dolphin and the reason they hang to the shallows.

We target winter redfish with a 7 1/2"-foot rod spooled with 15 lb Power Pro line, and 20-lb fluorocarbon as a leader to our lures. Although Redfish can get very large, most of the redfish caught in the winter are less than 27 inches.

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT THURSDAY DEC 31, 2009

Capt. Jerry Boaen and his charter Bobby Grizzard from Macon Georgia went out today in Ossabaw Sound. The first couple of hours started out kind of slow as they had to move around alot before they found a school of Reds feeding up against an oyster rake off a live bottom flat. As they approached the rake they could see the Reds boiling in the water. This trip they were using the Evolution popping cork with a 32" momo leader and glass beads  with a conoe loop knot on the hook using shrimp, mud minnows and gulp baits. The Reds were in a feeding frienzie, just inhaling anything that was thrown at them. Together they had tagged four Reds over the 27" mark and relased many over the 14'' mark. They kept 8 Reds and one Trout. Mr Grizzard is pictureed above with a 30" Red an the second Picture of a 32" Red.

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT SUNDAY DEC 21, 2009

Sunday Conditions just plain ROUGH!!! Winds gusting up to 30 knts. out of the North west made fishing very difficult in the sounds, but still manage to find fish!! Using the Evolution Popping cork with some glass beads in line on the leader and a canoe loop knot on the hook was still able to call up some trout. Looking forward to calmer days. The water Temp. was a mere 55 Degrees. The schools of Trout were still running in the 10-12 Inch range.

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT FRIDAY DEC 11, 2009

Capt. Jerry and I headed out this morning in a Blistering Cold and another Windy Day. We started out at Salt Pond finding conditions just to rough and went to Cabbage Island where we could find some calm and clear water. We had a total catch of 17 Trout and 4 Reds. The schools were small and scattered and were having to move a lot to find fish. The Evolution popping cork and live shrimp were the bait of choice today. Capt Jerry and myself feel pretty confindent that we can find fish in just about any kind of conditions, considering the elements that he and I dealt with today and along with what I have endured all week. Looking forward to calmer weather to come!!

BENDAROD FISHING CHARTERS FISHING REPORT THURSDAY DEC 10, 2009

Rain and HIGH WINDS couldn't keep Capt. Jim from fishing while on vacation. Finally found the Reds in Wassaw all were caught on the REDFISH MAJIC Spinner Bait by Strike King with a total catch of 6 Reds, two were taged and release one 24 1/2 inches and one 25 3/4 inches. The schools of trout were small and most were in the 10-12 inch slot. I had a total of 10 Trout that I could keep. Not bad for such a rough day. All Trout were caught on the Evolution Popping cork and live shrimp. Looking forward to a Friday trip with Capt. Jerry Boan.

Day 2 of Vacation

Winds are gusting out of the Northeast at 20-25knts, seas in Warsaw Sound 2 to 4 ft. and rain was still no match for the Evolution popping cork. Although it took a while longer to catch my limit on Trout from day 1 and almost getting Sea Sick finding Trout within the legal slot. I mange to finish the day with 15 trout and 1 weak fish. The Reds were nowhere to be found!!!
